Split the bill with QR: how it works for restaurants
18 October 2026·4 min readAt a table of four, splitting the bill usually means one card, three bank transfers and a waiter standing by. With QR ordering, everyone pays their share from their own phone and the order goes to the kitchen once the table has paid.
Two ways to split
Equally: the total, tip included, is divided by the number of people.
By items: each person picks what they ordered and pays for that, with a share of anything ordered for the table.
How the split link works
One person builds the order and chooses “Split with friends”. They get a link to send on WhatsApp. Each friend opens it, sees their share and pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Everyone sees who has paid. Once the whole amount is paid, the order goes to the kitchen. If the link runs out before everyone pays, everyone who paid is refunded, so nobody is left covering for others by accident.
What changes for your staff
Nothing to calculate and no card machine to carry around the table. Staff see one paid order in the kitchen app, exactly like any other order.
Tips are added by each guest on their own share and go to the team in full.
Tips for a smooth start
A few small things make splitting easy for guests:
- Mention “Split the bill from your phone” on the table card
- Keep tip buttons to three choices plus “No tip”
- Brief your staff in one sentence: “Everyone can pay their part on the link.”
